The Art of the Selfie.

When you mention the word selfie, most people automatically think of a teenage girl sitting in her room, or in the bathroom mirror, taking a picture of themselves while making a face that looks like a duck. Or you might think of a teenage boy, bare chested, making pseudo-gang-rapper signs and trying to look tough. But it is not likely that the term selfie would conjure up images of a middle aged semi-bald, pot bellied male . . . . Unless you live in my house.

I discovered my love for the selfie almost immediately after learning of their existence from my teenage daughter, and I now consider it my medium . . . My art form.

It’s not so much out of vanity that I choose to selfie, it’s more out of self-amusement . . . Or at least that is how I justify my being a middle aged selfie taker. I just love pulling off a great selfie.

Now believe it or not, selfie taking is a skill that, like many things, takes practice. There is a learning curve. The first step is learning how to properly operate your phone’ camera . . . So you don’t end up accidentally taking a selfie of yourself trying to figure out how to take a selfie:

One needs to consider things like . . . What’s in the background:

And . . . Is the cat as excited about being in a selfie as I am? (This selfie cost me a rather nasty scratch to the nose):

But once one has ironed out some of the typical beginner selfie taker difficulties, there is a whole world of selfie taking that opens up.

You can selfie yourself at work (which is a little more interesting if you happen to be a tree trimmer . . . And currently in a tree):

Or you can take one at work while other people are working and you are just standing there taking a selfie:

You can selfie on the morning your favorite socks show up in the laundry basket:

You can selfie your special alone time reading classic literature:

You can selfie while fighting for space in front of the heat register:

You can hijack a selfie:

You can have your own selfie hijacked:

As your selfie skills progress, you can start stepping up your game with the use of photo editing apps:

But no matter how much fun you have getting creative with your selfies, the best ones are still the ones you take that have meaning . . . Like one with two beautiful daughters . . . Even if they aren’t willing participants ūüôā

I’m Not One of Those Bloggers.

I see it all the time. The owner of a blog or Facebook page that was actually worth reading will get published or will self publish, which is what I did with my book Single Family Asylum, and then suddenly their blog or page becomes one big advertisement for their book.

I (author of Single Family Asylum) am just not going to be that blogger. I think that I have already made it clear that my book, Single Family Asylum, is available on Amazon (¬†Single Family Asylum ) and I’m going to leave it at that¬†rather than¬†continually shoving the fact that my book, Single Family Asylum, is on Amazon ( Single Family Asylum¬†) and ready for you to purchase it (from Amazon)(Single Family Asylum).

To me, Jon Ziegler author of Single Family Asylum, this is nothing short of vanity. It is certainly not something I would write about in my Amazon book Single Family Asylum. And you (the potential purchaser of Single Family Asylum) would never catch me taking some cheesy selfie posing like an author (even though I actually am Jon Ziegler author of Single Family Asylum) with reading glasses on my nose as an author prop, Single Family Asylum  and a computer in the background to suggest that I had just finished writing my book Single Family Asylum.

So fear not Single Family Asylum my faithful readers of the Single Family Asylum blog which is also now available in book form here: Single Family Asylum . I will never Single Family Asylum ever stoop Single Family Asylum  so low Single Family Asylum as to turn my blog Single Family Asylum into a shameless Single Family Asylum promotional site Single Family Asylum.

But just Single Family Asylum in case Single Family Asylum you missed Single Family Asylum my previous Single Family Asylum Single Family Asylum posts announcing Single Family Asylum the availability of Single Family Asylum the book (Single Family Asylum ), my book Single Family Asylum >***Single Family Asylum***> can be purchased by you Single Family Asylum Single Family Asylum  Single Family Asylum here Single Family Asylum on Single Family Asylum Amazon Single Family Asylum : Single Family Asylum.

Sincerely, Jon Ziegler author of Single Family Asylum

It’s that time again.

It was just a month ago that I put out a pathetic plea for my one hundredth follower. I don’t pay a whole lot if attention to the followers number until it gets close to a milestone. . . . I am at 197.

I guess it’s kind of like a pledge drive on Public television. . . Only I’m not asking for your money, just a follow or two so that I may burst headlong into the “hundreds” of followers instead of just “a hundred”.

I know, I know, it’s annoying, but I don’t spend all that much energy splashing myself all across the blogosphere to gain followers. I’ve joined a few sites like “Top Mommy Blogs”, and I’ll throw up a link on some of the “promote yourself” type posts on some of the larger blogs, but other than that, I pretty much just let this blog go where it may.

Thank you for your tolerance.
